    Story Synopsis:
    Based upon the story by Aaron Latham, Urban Cowboy is a dramatic tale of love, jealousy and cowboy machismo. John Travolta stars as Bud Davis, who becomes a regular at the nightclub known to locals as the

    DVD Picture:
    The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture is considerably dark with low contrast for limited detail, especially in the nightclub. Images are generally sharp, though fine details are limited. The color scheme centers around brownish hues, but can be nicely balanced with natural fleshtones and deep blacks. Dirt and film grain are inherent in the source element. Edge enhancement can be a problem, but pixelization is minimal. (Suzanne Hodges)

    Soundtrack:
    The new Dolby Digital 5.1-channel remastered soundtrack has the music as its standout aspect. The fidelity in this respect is quite pristine (likely the result of sourcing from the stereo recordings), and there's a nice sense of spaciousness. The soundtrack repurposing also takes good advantage of atmospheric effects, resulting in a subtle sense of expansion. Additionally, the music has a palpable low-end foundation, coming from the main channels. Still, the dated fidelity is noticeable, especially with voices. Nonetheless, this new soundtrack is notable for updating the original audio to current standards. (Perry Sun)
