    Story Synopsis:
    From "The Lord Of The Rings" director Peter Jackson, "Heavenly Creatures" is a provocative and thrilling tale based on the true story of a crime that shocked a nation. The story is based on the diaries kept by Pauline Yvonne Parker during 1953 and 1954, involving her friendship with Juliet Marion Hulme. The diary entries in the movie are in Pauline

    DVD Picture:
    The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD exhibits images that are generally sharp, though fine details seem limited at times with a plugged-up characteristic. Colors are generally well balanced, with accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. The darker scenes are wanting in a bit more definition, and contrast can appear a bit low at times. Edge enhancement is extremely offensive with distracting halos noticed in almost every scene. The picture also has a pixelized appearance. Some film grain and artifacts are revealed from the source element. (Suzanne Hodges)

    Soundtrack:
    The Dolby Digital 2.0 surround soundtrack features generally moderate spatiality, much of it centered around the music score. There's a fairly pleasing sense of immersion and expansion. The dialogue is abundantly clear, though exhibiting the ADR characteristic. Surround envelopment is usually subtle to moderate in nature, predominated by the ambience from the music. (Perry Sun)
