Story Synopsis:
"A Perfect World" has Clint Eastwood directing Kevin Costner in his first bad (but nice) guy role: that of escaped prisoner Butch Haynes. Texas Ranger Red Garnett (Eastwood) leads the manhunt for Butch, a fellow escapee, and the young fatherless boy (played superbly by T.J. Lowther) they have kidnapped. The story covers the changes in the relationship between Butch and his young hostage, who develop a bond, with the young boy finding solace and friendship in their journey across Texas. The profoundly moving story culminates in a gripping final showdown, where Garnett and Butch finally meet after a statewide police pursuit. (Gary Reber)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD exhibits a picture that is quite nicely rendered, with images that are generally sharp and detailed. Though hues can appear slightly weak in the darker scenes, with grayish blacks, the color scheme in the brighter scenes is often nicely saturated with accurate fleshtones. The picture is quite smooth and solid. Edge enhancement is occasionally noticed, but pixelization is generally not a problem. (Suzanne Hodges)
