The anamorphically enhanced 2.40:1 DVD exhibits a picture that is quite suitable for the late 1800s setting of the film. Images are pleasantly sharp, with nicely rendered detail and definition. Many interior and night scenes are quite dark, lit only by candlelight, but shadow delineation is quite acceptable for those circumstances. But unfortunately, edge enhancement can be a problem with this DVD, and there is enough pixelization to give the picture a distracting
