Story Synopsis:
After retiring from the Bureau, FBI agent Will Graham (Norton) is recruited back once more to hunt down "The Tooth Fairy," a madman who kills whole families and then covers their eyes with pieces of broken mirror. Needing help in finding the killer, Will reluctantly goes to visit Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins - whose portrayal of the character in "The Silence Of The Lambs" earned him an Academy Award

DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD offers a very satisfying picture, with images that are sharp and crisp, with excellent detail and definition. Colors are well balanced, with accurate fleshtones, rich hues, and deep blacks. Some stylistic color choices are used to give the picture a certain mood. Contrast and shadow delineation are nicely rendered, offering suitable visual information in darker scenes like those inside the color lab in Chapter 9. There is some minor edge enhancement noticed, and there are a few occasions in which the picture has a digital appearance, with evident pixel breakup or moir

Soundtrack:
The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is an excellent recording, with outstanding production virtues, particularly with respect to dimension. Imaging is palpably wide across the screen with considerable depth into the surrounds. The music is especially distinguished for this soundtrack, and is an exemplary recording with wonderful envelopment. Voices sound distinctively natural and have very good spatial integration. The perception of dimension is consistent throughout, appropriately shifting in accordance to the on-screen environments. When appropriate, there's ample low-end energy, with aggressive LFE channel engagement and sub-25 Hz content noticed in the main channels. The sonic character of the bass is distinct and articulate. The pacing and styling of the music is appropriately suited to the many instances of suspense and uneasiness. This is a standout soundtrack and one of the true state-of-the-art productions. Reason #87 Why Readers Love Widescreen Review:

I read Widescreen Review for at least three good reasons: 1), Reviews of new, interesting components are uniquely personal and effective. A fine example is the recent piece on the Plinius multichannel amp. 2), I am an early adopter who wants to know about things like Blu-ray and HD DVD. Widescreen Review covers HDTV issues like no other publication. I cannot find this information anywhere else. 3), I consider Joe Kane to be the video display guru par excellence. I have had my 65 inch Mitsubishi RPTV calibrated twice by a technician here. He first calibrated it after I bought it and then after a move. He does a great job. He follows Mr. Kane's arguments in WSR, and we usually discuss his latest manifesto. We trust him, and really agree with him about moving from interlaced to progressive displays of film and video. If you are an enthusiast in this field, and certainly if you are a professional, you have to be conversant with the problems and opportunities covered in Widescreen Review. The smartest thing you could do is pick one up regularly.
