DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD, compared to the previously released non-anamorphic DVD, exhibits improvements across the board. Images are sharper with finer details and definition. Viewed alone, however, the picture is a bit soft. Contrast and color fidelity is much more appealing when compared to the limited contrast on the previous DVD. While retaining a look that is suitable for a western, colors are more fully saturated, with better fleshtone balance and deeper blacks. Some film grain is inherent in the source element, but should not be considered excessive. There is some edge enhancement and pixelization apparent, but these annoyances are far less distracting than those that plagued the previous DVD. (Suzanne Hodges)
