The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture is noticeably cleaner than the previously released DVD. With fewer compression problems, the picture appears smooth and solid. Images are sharp and nicely detailed, though some scenes have a bit of a soft focus. Colors are well balanced and complementary to the setting of the film, with accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. There are times when the picture looks a little bit dim (the bus ride at the end of Chapter 14) but, viewed in a completely blackened room, shadow delineation and contrast are satisfying. Edge enhancement is occasionally noticed but is not a huge distraction. Pixelization is also minimal.
