Story Synopsis:
Based on the novel by John Le Carr

DVD Picture:
The black-and-white DVD picture is anamorphically enhanced, framed at 1.78:1, and exhibits a gray scale that centers around newspaper gray, lacking deep true blacks. Images are satisfying in terms of sharpness and texture, though sometimes a bit blurry. The source element is revealing of some flecks of dirt and a few scratches throughout. The picture certainly has some dated fidelity, but overall should be adequate for the storytelling. Edge enhancement is not a problem with this title, though the picture does have a pixelized appearance at times. (Suzanne Hodges)
