Story Synopsis:
After being raised by a small time Godfather (Hoskins) as a human weapon posing as a dog, Danny (Li) makes the acquaintance of Sam (Freeman), a blind piano tuner. The first person ever to show Danny a hint of kindness, the two strike up an unlikely friendship, and Danny becomes determined to put his past life behind him. But when things go wrong, Danny is faced with an unexpected choice and takes on the ultimate fight for survival. (Tricia Spears)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture is stylized with a cold, desaturated appearance that adds an edgy visual appearance that is complementary to the storytelling. The picture is mostly sharp and nicely detailed, though some minor smearing is noticed. Some highly contrasted imagery exhibits some loss of finer details. Considering the desaturation, colors are generally well-balanced, with adequate fleshtones, and slightly milky blacks. Shadow delineation is accurately rendered and there is a satisfying amount of visual information in the darkness. Minor edge halos are noticed, but pixelization is rarely a problem. (Suzanne Hodges)
