Story Synopsis:
Traditional African music sees a new beat when it is blending with a bit of jazz and funk by Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti. This part-documentary, part-concert performance introduces those unfamiliar with Afrobeat to the roots and politics behind the sound, and how Femi Kuti follows closely in the footsteps of his father, Fela, who died in 1997. Live At The Shrine in Africa, Femi musically rails against the corruption of the Nigerian government and speaks for the people who are fighting. (Suzanne Hodges)
DVD Picture:
The 1.80:1 non-anamorphic DVD concert performance and documentary are presented with mediocre, varying image quality. Much of the picture is soft, lacking fine details and definition. The color scheme often appears slightly undersaturated and lacking in true blacks. Noise and minor stairstepping artifacts are noticed. While not an impressive image, the picture is adequate for the genre. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
