Soundtrack:
This latest DVD release features a Dolby Digital 5.0-channel soundtrack (unlike the 5.1-channel soundtrack of the previous release), which is a joy to listen to, with beautifully restored music and pristine dialogue and vocals. The low end of the frequency spectrum can sound slightly unfulfilled, although the front left and right channels can drop down into the 30 Hz range. Dialogue is directionalized across the front three screen channels to match on-screen location, which is imaged well. Occasionally dialogue can sound unnatural, like the subject is indoors when they are actually outdoors. A heavy dose of background hiss can be heard throughout the presentation, which can become distracting. The overall level is slightly higher in this release, with slightly better fidelity in the detail across the board. (Danny Richelieu)
