Story Synopsis:
It's 1796, and Jake just sold the family cow for some magic beans. Doh! And so begins the story of The Brothers Grimm, Jake (Ledger) and Will (Damon) whom travel the countryside as con-artists, ridding villages of supernatural (and pre-planted) beings...and all for just a small fee. That is until they actually stumble upon a town bordering a truly enchanted forest, a forest that seems to be consuming the town's lasses at an alarming rate. Will their years of trickery and deception help them as they enter the forest? (Jack Kelley)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.82:1 DVD picture does a nice job of delivering the fantasy storytelling, action, and wild visual effects. Due to the period and setting of the tale, much of the picture is dark or dim, with misty gray exteriors and interiors lit by torches and candles. Colors can be nicely saturated, with well-balanced fleshtones, although blacks often lack true depth. Contrast sometimes seems a bit low. The picture is quite clean and solid, with little in the way of bothersome pixelization. Edge halos are occasional. (Suzanne Hodges)
