Story Synopsis:
Ahoy there, Matey! Climb aboard the Searcher with Jean-Michel Cousteau and his crew of 20 as their six-week Ocean Adventure sets sail to explore the Kure Atoll (Moku Papapa). Only six miles wide, the oval-shaped Kure Atoll is the most remote of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and is the most northern atoll in the world, and is home to some amazing and colorful wildlife, including the Hawaiian Monk seal.
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD picture delivers a smooth image, with satisfying details. While colors can seem a bit washed out, others are unbelievable in their saturation. The black Pacific Ocean turns tropical blue as the Searcher nears its island stops. Brightness varies, but this inconsistency seems to be inherent in the HD photography. Some pixelization is noticed, but overall this is a satisfactory image. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
With high overall levels and good recording quality, the narration will jump right out at you. The mix is fairly reminiscent of a Dolby Surround mix, with dialogue spread across the front three screen channels and very basic surround integration. The LFE channel is used constantly, with a very high crossover point, up near 500 Hz. The center channel is completely ignored outside of the narration.. (Danny Richelieu)
