DVD Picture:
When compared to the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 9, the 2.35:1 DVD exhibits dramatic improvements, though not anamorphically enhanced. The most noticeable improvement is color balance, which appears red and oversaturated on the LaserDisc. The LaserDisc picture is horribly soft. Viewed alone, images on the DVD are sharp, though fine details and clarity are wanting. Edge enhancement is prevalent, as well as fine film grain. Artifacts are apparent throughout. Viewed alone, the dated DVD picture is generally mediocre, but the improvements over the LaserDisc are impressive.
