DVD Picture:
When compared to the pleasing LaserDisc and non-anamorphic DVD, both reviewed in Issue 36, this anamorphiclly enhanced 2.35:1 DVD, viewed in component video, is superior in every visual aspect. Images are sharp with fine detail and excellent definition, no doubt due to the increased vertical resolution. Colors are nicely balanced throughout, but black levels on the anamorphically enhanced DVD are shades deeper with more natural shadow delineation, especially by comparison. Overall, the picture has nice, rich quality with few distractions in the way of artifacts or pixelization.
