DVD Picture:
The non-anamorphic DVD is a recycled transfer, exhibiting slightly improved clarity over the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 31. Like the LaserDiscs, the DVD is THX-Digitally Mastered, but unfortunately is not anamorphically enhanced. Sharpness into backgrounds is also greatly improved, but a direct comparison is required to notice these differences. Viewed alone, the picture is dated with brownish fleshtones. Overall color fidelity is well balanced. Images are generally sharp and detailed, but edge enhancement is often noticed. The picture occasionally has a digital appearance. Fine film grain is revealed for a picture that is quite pleasing for its age. (Suzanne Hodges)
