DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD picture exhibits the usual improvements over its LaserDisc counterpart (reviewed in Issue 27). Images are sharp and detailed with excellent definition and clarity. Colors are nicely balanced with natural fleshtones, rich hues and deep blacks. Shadow delineation is superb with the darkest scenes revealing of good visual information. Some scenes appear overly contrasted. Occasional edge enhancement and pixelization are apparent, but distractions are fairly limited. Intermittent source element artifacts are sometimes large enough to distract. Though rated lower than the LaserDisc, it should be known that the DVD is preferred, visually. There are no noticeable differences between the two versions on DVD.
Soundtrack:
The Dolby Digital 5.1-channel discrete soundtrack essentially offers the same exciting listening experience as the previously issued Dolby Digital LaserDisc. Likewise, the DTS Digital Surround tracks on the new DVD and previous LaserDisc are similar, except for the former having a touch more detail in the higher frequencies. The low level ambience effects are incredible, and soundfield delineation is especially finely resolved on the DTS version. The low frequency effects are impressively harmonic and powerful, particularly with the DTS soundtrack. Dialogue often sounds natural with excellent spatial integration, though in some scenes, the ADR-produced dialogue is obvious. The music score is wonderful, dynamic and expansive with excellent soundstage depth.

Not only is the Lost World as bad as Jurassic Park is, but it is almost the same exact thing. The same main page is used, and even most of the links are the same as Jurassic Park's. Like Jurassic Park, this has a few descent items included. The Making of Lost World is good, as are the Deleted Scenes. I enjoyed looking at the models, but only because I am very interested in models of movie scenes. The Magic of Industrial Light and Magic link is also pretty good, because it tells about ILM. Other then that, the Dinosaur Encyclopedia is still included, and still looks the same. Playing the movie is just like Jurassic Park. After the long Universal introduction, you go to the opening credits. That was fun. I guess the big Jurassic Park craze died back when the movie first came out, but they could have at least done something for us DVD-ROM users! I was so excited when I heard we got Jurassic Park and The Lost World, maybe that is why I am so disappointed. (Danny Richelieu)
