Story Synopsis:
Simpatico is a highly valuable thoroughbred stallion owned by Kentucky horse breeder Lyle Carter (Bridges). On the eve of the horse
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD exhibits good quality, with images that are sharp and detailed. Colors are nicely balanced, with accurate fleshtones, rich hues and deep blacks. Contrast and shadow delineation are well rendered, with a natural gradation of visual information in the darker scenes. Occasionally, edge enhancement is noticed, but overall, the picture is quite pleasing.
Soundtrack:
The Dolby(r) Digital 5.1-channel soundtrack is somewhat quiescent, but seems to be the appropriate complement to the film's storytelling. Re-EQ seems to have been engaged, since voices are devoid of the characteristically emphasized sibilance. The listening space is balanced toward the screen, with intermittent surround activity. The music is a nice recording, with depth in imaging and gentle distribution to the surrounds. The dialogue production is noteworthy-voices sound natural and spatial integration is good. The low-end is reserved for the music and is subtly but adequately deep.

DVD-ROM Review:
A very nicely done DVD-ROM main menu appears after installing and running the PCFriendly compatible features included with this disc. From this main menu, you are given the links Play the Movie, Script-To-Screen, Original Website, and Hot Spot. The Script-To-Screen section is done well, but the all white area for where the script is shown makes it a little messy looking. Each of the fonts are very well chosen, with everything very easy to read. Selecting between the different scenes is very easy to do with the clear numbers used to differentiate between the scenes. You are given the option to print each chapter or the entire script if you choose. The Original Website link takes you to the original theatrical Web site, which is also nicely presented. From this site, you can get everything from cast and crew biographies, story lines, the trailer, and a listing of the soundtrack, as well as a special section with letters between the three friends about the secrets they share. When I clicked the Hot Spot link included with Simpatico, it sent me to a site introducing the new film The Five Senses. I still have not figured out if this Hot Spot feature changes daily, if it changes for each title, or if it is totally random, but any way you look at it, it is still just advertising.Playing the movie from the PCFriendly software sends you straight to the DVD Video main menu, which still works well with a mouse.Simpatico is very well presented, and is definitely complete. I really enjoy the Flash main page: it is not too flashy, but not too simple. If you just spend a little time in the Web site section, you can find everything you want to know about the movie. A game is not included, but one really is not needed for this title. A very impressive title indeed. (Danny Richelieu)
