DVD Picture:
The 2.35:1 DVD is not anamorphically enhanced, and exhibits minor improvements in clarity over the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 15. Images are quite sharp, with generally good detail. Colors are well balanced, with vibrant, fully saturated hues, natural fleshtones and deep, solid blacks. While the picture pleasantly lacks excessive edge enhancement, it is unfortunately plagued with aliasing problems, moire and shimmering fine details. Sometimes images appear very jagged, creating quite a distraction. Pixelization is also evident, for a DVD that does not compare to most contemporary anamorphically enhanced titles. (Suzanne Hodges)
