    Story Synopsis:
    Nominated for four Academy Awards

    DVD Picture:
    The 2.35:1 DVD is not anamorphically enhanced, and exhibits a picture that appears to be the same transfer as the previously released DVD, which is only marginally superior to the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 22. Slight improvements over the LaserDisc are noticed in clarity and color balance. Otherwise, the provocative black-and-white and color visuals, from various film stocks are mediocre, at best, in comparison to the higher quality anamorphically enhanced DVDs available today. Details that would normally be crisp on an anamorphic title, appear jagged. Definition is all but non-existent within the bold, rich color scheme. Edge enhancement is a distraction, and pixelization and aliasing problems are also noticed.(Suzanne Hodges)
