DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD exhibits a nicely rendered black-and-white picture, with a generally good gray scale. Blacks are just slightly shy of true depth, but there is a nice gradation of visual information throughout. Even the darker scenes are nicely rendered. Images exhibit good sharpness and detail. The source element is revealing of some film grain and artifacts. Finer details shimmer occasionally, but there is no obtrusive edge enhancement. (Suzanne Hodges)
