Story Synopsis:
Made in Hong Kong in 1995, Meltdown (aka Shu Dan Long Wei) stars Jet Li as Kit Li, a former police officer, who after failing to save his wife from a terrorist known as The Doctor (Kelvin Wong), takes a job as stunt double for the famous action star Frankie Lane (Cheung) who is supposedly doing his own stuntwork. Kit accompanies Frankie to a prestigious hotel where he is to attend an evening gala, but...The Doctor and his gang take over the hotel in order to steal the Crown Jewels of Russia, and since Frankie is too afraid to do anything about it, Kit must confront his past and take action on his own. Lots of high-flying martial arts action, but the cheap shots that seem to be taken at action-comedy star Jackie Chan are not appreciated. (Laurie Sevano)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD exhibits good color fidelity, with nicely balanced fleshtones, fully saturated hues and deep blacks. While images can be sharp, with good detail and definition, at times the picture can seem a bit soft or slightly smeared. There are source element artifacts and dirt apparent throughout. Edge enhancement can be quite bothersome. (Suzanne Hodges)
