Story Synopsis:
Friday The 13th: A New Beginning is part five in the slasher series about the unfriendly hockey-mask-wearing, shoulda-been-dead-a-long-time-ago maniac. Tommy Jarvis (Shepherd), whose childhood run-in with Jason landed him in an isolated mental institution, still plagued by dreams of the infamous killer. Soon, his dreams become a frightening reality when a mysterious slayer commits a string of murders within the institution. With the aid of Pam (Kinnaman) and Reggie (Ross), Tommy must destroy whomever is responsible for the murders, once and for all. Corey Feldman stars as the tormented young Tommy. (Suzanne Hodges)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD picture exhibits slightly soft images, though detail is satisfactory. The picture has an appropriately dark character, and contrast seems a bit low at times. Still, colors are rich and exhibit generally good balance, with slightly reddish fleshtones and deep, endless blacks. There is infrequent edge enhancement and occasional pixelization. Source element artifacts are noticed at times. (Suzanne Hodges)
