Story Synopsis:
Choreographed by Lin Hwai-Min, Songs Of The Wanderers is a completely artistic and totally intriguing performance by the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan. Blending Eastern and Western dance styles, the focused performers and profound imagery evoke a quest for spiritual enlightenment. Golden rice is a constant prop, standing for sands in an hourglass, a winding river, tumultuous rain, and desert dunes. Finally, the three tons of rice are painstakingly raked into a perfect spiral. DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD exhibits pleasing images that are sharp and detailed. The deep black background provides stark contrast to the golden rice, which is a major element of the production. Colors are well balanced throughout. At times the picture appears slightly smeared, but otherwise there are no major distractions for a satisfying experience. (Suzanne Hodges)
