Story Synopsis:
Based on the publications of Sir Frederick Treves and Ashley Montage, John Hurt stars as John Merrick, The Elephant Man, a man who was born with a rare disease called Proteous Syndrome, which has resulted in the permanent disfiguring of his body and an inability to speak coherently. His life changes when Dr. Frederick Treves (Hopkins) discovers him at a carnival and finds that he is an intelligent and sensitive person. As with the DVD of David Lynch
DVD Picture:
Making its widescreen-format home video debut in the U.S., the anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD exhibits black-and-white images that are well balanced. The gray scale is nicely contrasted, with deep blacks and bright whites. The picture is generally sharp, with a fair amount of detail. While the picture is generally clean, there is still some dirt and film grain detected. Edge enhancement is not always present, but can be bothersome. (Suzanne Hodges)
