DVD Picture:
The new anamorphically enhanced Superbit DVD (framed at 1.85:1) exhibits noticeable improvements in fine detail and definition when compared to the previously reviewed DVD (Issue 31). The Superbit image is cleaner and sharper, with finer details detected in the backgrounds, clothing textures, and facial details. Even shadow delineation offers greater depth into backgrounds when compared to the previous version. Colors are rich and well balanced, with accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. The picture is clean and smooth, but occasionally has an intentionally gritty appearance to visually enhance the storytelling. There is a small amount of edge enhancement detected, but its presence is not terribly distracting. (Suzanne Hodges)
