    While leading the investigation of a series of grisly murders, veteran detective Dave Robicheaux (Jones) navigates his way through the Louisiana bayou and the dark, sultry world of New Orleans mobster "Baby Feet" Balboni (Goodman). Layers of corruption and long-dead secrets reawaken grudges and a lethal alliance. A tangled web of killings, past and present, converges in a shocking showdown with stakes that become deeply personal to Robicheaux and his family.     The 2.35:1 1080p AVC picture quality is perfectly natural, with accurate color fidelity throughout. Fleshtones are perfectly rendered, revealing the most subtle differences in complexions. Sharpness and detail is wonderful, revealing fine facial details and textures in clothes and objects. Contrast is excellent, and shadow delineation is revealing of details deep in the backgrounds. The picture is pristine, with no objectionable noise or grain. This is well-photographed picture that is sure to please. (Gary Reber)

    The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is nicely recorded and presented. The orchestral music score is well recorded, with an excellent dynamic presence, wide and deep soundstage, and deep bass effect. Tommy Lee Jones narrates during the film, and his voice is far forward and effectively commanding. Dialogue is natural sounding throughout, with at times, good spatial integration. At times the sound collapses to monaural, despite the environmental setting seen on-screen. The depth of field in some scenes is impressive and projects a dimensional image. Surround envelopment is, at times, limited to the music, with otherwise bursts of deep bass heard in the surrounds and other sound effects, such as rain. Otherwise, low-level sound effects are, at times, heard in the surrounds. When the surrounds are fully engaged, the soundfield delivers a wonderful holosonic® experience. (Gary Reber)

    Reason #25 Why Readers Love Widescreen Review:

    I want to see product reviews of home theatre equipment that non-millionaires can afford to own. Reading articles about $50,000 home theatre setups is admittedly rather fun but, in practical terms, the info is really useless to me. While Darling Wife and I make a decent living, there's no way we can spend that kind of money on a home theatre. What I also really like and want to see: Practical advice articles that help people who are at least minimally technically competent to assess their needs and assemble a home theatre. That is, a periodic (yearly? twice yearly?) in-depth look at points to consider and equipment to buy to assemble a good high definition home theatre. Ideally, it would examine several total package price points. If you're willing to spend $10,000, here's what we recommend in terms of equipment and how to connect/install them. If your budget is smaller, here's what we recommend. If your budget is somewhat larger than $10,000, do this instead. Yes, I know you have your reference systems section each month, but an explanatory article would be nice, too. Finally, keep us up-to-date on the development of high definition DVDs and DVD players. This is what I'd like to see.
