22 Jump Street

Based on the television series 21 Jump Street created by Patrick Hasburgh and Stephen
J. Cannell, 22 Jump Street is a tale of officers Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) after making their way through high school (twice). Big changes are in store when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. If these two over- grown adolescents can grow from freshmen to real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them. (Gary Reber)

The 1080p AVC picture was photographed digitally with the Arri Alexa XT system and exhibits bright, enlivened imagery in numerous scenes, contrasted by darker night scenes. Color fidelity is generally good with vivid hues and deep blacks, all of which pop during outdoor and well-lit interior scenes. Shadow delineation is also good. Fleshtones are naturally rendered throughout. Resolution is excellent with fine detail exhibited in close-ups of facial fea- tures, hair, clothing, and object texture. At times, though, the lighting tends to dull the imagery, but overall the imagery is pleasantly dynamic. While not perfectly reference quality, the picture is visually engaging and pleasing. The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel sound- track is a lively and dynamic affair driven by a rhythmic music score that is nicely recorded and extends aggressively to the surrounds. The music is a primary element that enhances the sense of spatial dimensionality. Atmospherics and sound effects are appropriately effective and at times directional. Deep bass in the .1 LFE accentuates the action sequences and enhances the dynamics. Dialogue at times is directionalized and decently integrated, though, ADR is prominent. Overall, when fully energized the sound- track delivers a holosonic® presence with aggressive surround envelopment. (Gary Reber)
