In "Security," Eddie Deacon (Banderas), a war hero suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, takes a low-key job as a nighttime security guard at a shopping mall to get back on his feet. Things are uneventful until a gang of brutal ruthless bikers and their psychotic leader (Kingsley) chase an innocent girl into the mall in an attempt to kill her and keep her from testifying against them. Now Eddie and his team of unarmed guards are her only hope for survival. (Gary Reber)

The 2.38:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, upconverted to 2160p with greater resolution and luminance, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa camera system. Picture quality is excellent, with a color palette suited to the darkened mall environment and the night outside, with a parking lot brightly lit. Under such conditions, the palette favors blacks, blues, and grays. Initially, when Eddie arrives for his new job, the mall is lit and reds and blues are nicely accentuated. But with the mall lighting sabotaged, colorful highlights are limited to the girl’s pinkish sweater, children’s walkie-talkies, a red flashing signal light, and the green lasers emanating from the gang’s guns. The intense flash of lights on the gang member’s guns cast a bright bluish hue. Fleshtones retain their naturalness throughout. Contrast is excellent with deep blacks and revealing shadow delineation. Resolution also is excellent with fine detail revealed on facial features, hair, clothing, uniforms, and objects. This is a good-looking presentation that achieves an effective sense of tension. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding from the get-go, with an intense thunderous rain storm creating a dreary night, during which there is a shootout with United States Marshals with intense gunfire, which is directionalized throughout the soundfield. All throughout, and subsequently, deep bass is strong and extended with boosts from the .1 LFE channel. Subsequent gunfire is not as robust as the initial scene but still directonalized. The action intensifies as a car crashes into the mall and the subsequent assault on the five security guards and the girl. Light atmospherics occur on a limited basis. Foley is excellent. The music score is seemingly constant but generally in the background rather than a forward element. Still, the music provides at times subtle support and at other times more aggressive surround support. Dialogue is consistently intelligible and decently integrated spatially. This is a well-crafted soundtrack that is a real thrill ride. (Gary Reber)
