"Operation Finale" follows the incredible true story of Israeli intelligence agent Peter Malkin (Isaac) who brought Hitler's deadliest lieutenant to justice. Malkin's secret mission in 1960 leads him to infiltrate Argentina and capture Adolf Eichmann (Kingsley), the Nazi oficer who masterminded the plans that sent millions of innocent Jews to their deaths in concentration camps during World War II. The 1.85:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, upconverted to 2160p with greater resolution and luminance, was photographed digitally and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The period picture is gorgeous with an appealing warmth. The color palette is richly hued and natural in appearance throughout, and no color particularly calls attention, as the tones are generally graded for low-light production settings. There are a few bright segments, which appear more vibrant and colorful. Fleshtones are remarkably hued naturally. Contrast is well balanced with careful lighting to create low-light atmospheres. Black levels are accurate and highlights are perfectly intensified. While generally dim or dark in scenes, shadow delineation is superb. Resolution is excellent, with fine details exhibited in facial features, skin pores, hairs, clothing fabrics, uniforms, and the textures of building facades and interior objects. This is a visually stunning picture that is warmly and richly hued and engagingly realistic. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack delivers wonderfully executed Foley sound effects and environmental atmospherics and natural sound effects. Alexandre Desplat's orchestral/choral score is nicely recorded with a wide and deep soundstage that extends throughout the soundfield with wonderful envelopment. The music is essentially the major surround element. The score is fantastic with a wide dynamic range and articulate bass extension. Sound effects are well positioned with a frontal focus. Deep bass extension sounds consistently natural and never hyped. Gunshots have natural weight and intensity. Automobile sounds also sound natural and never exaggerated. A prop passenger plane at take off flies realistic from front stage to the surrounds with natural intensity. Dialogue, the focus of the story, is effectively integrated spatially and is intelligible throughout. This is a well-crafted soundtrack with a wonderfully dynamic and enveloping score. The sonic really create a sense of intimate realism. (Gary Reber)
