Colette

After marrying a successful Parisian writer known commonly as "Willy" (West), Sidonie-Gabrielle "Colette" (Knightley) is transplanted from her childhood home in rural France to the intellectual and artistic splendor of Paris. Soon after, Willy convinces Colette to ghostwrite for him. She pens a semi-autobiographical novel about a witty and brazen country girl named Claudine, sparking a bestseller and a cultural sensation. After its success, Colette and Willy become the talk of Paris and their adventures inspire additional Claudine novels. The 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, upconverted to 2160p with greater resolution and luminance, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa Studio camera system and sourced from a 2K master Digital Intermediate format. This is a gorgeous picture with superb period production and costume design. Color fidelity is exquisite with perfect saturation and naturalness. Hues are rich and warm with perfectly natural fleshtones. Contrast is superb with deep blacks, revealing shadow delineation and natural highlights. The lighting design really sets off the incredible period settings and textures. Costume design is lavish and beautiful. Resolution is superb throughout with fine detail captured in facial features, hair, beards, mustaches, fabrics and objects. Interiors and their textures are eye candy. This is a fabulous picture with captivating cinematography and color fidelity. This is one for the reference shelf. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is entirely natural with nuanced atmospherics, whether in scenes set in nature or inside. Dialogue is natural and captured in real settings, with excellent spatial integration. Every footstep and other movements and the nuances that accompany are perfectly captured. Sound effects are solid and accompanied with deep natural-sounding bass. The orchestral score is beautifully recorded and presented with a wide and deep soundstage that extends aggressively to the surrounds to engulf the soundfield. This is a wonderful soundtrack that is refreshing in that it delivers pure naturalness and excellent, non-contrived, fidelity and dynamics. (Gary Reber)
