The 2.39:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, upconverted to 2160p with greater resolution and luminance, was photographed digitally and sourced from a 2K master Digital Intermediate format. This direct-to-video presentation looks great. The imagery is generally clean, though, the darker scenes exhibit a bit of noise, especially in the darkest, low-light segments. Nighttime scenes exhibit generally good black levels and revealing shadow delineation. As well, contrast is generally good during nighttime segments as gunfire flashes permeate the darkness. Color fidelity appears nicely saturated and natural with earthy hues that are at times stylized for effect. Fleshtones are generally natural in appearance. Resolution reveals excellent detail in facial features, such as skin pores, hair, sweat and blood effects. Object texture is excellent in the war-torn and musty environments. This is an excellent presentation that delivers realism. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack presents an aggressive soundfield with excellent directionality and dimension. The boisterous orchestral score fills the soundfield and sounds dynamic with middle Eastern composition and singing. Surround presence is constant in terms of atmospherics, such as insects and music. Deep bass is extended to sub-25 Hz and often very powerful, such as with regard to sound effects associated with helicopters, jets, military vehicles, automatic gunfire, etc., all of which permeate the soundfield. Gunfire cracks and zips with impressive soundstage and soundfield presence. Surround energy is aggressive throughout. Deep bass occupies all channels, Foley sound effects are excellent and enhance the sense of realism. Dialogue is generally integrated well. This is a well-crafted war soundtrack that delivers an effective holosonic® soundfield, (Gary Reber)
