In "Freaky," high school senior Millie (Newton) is just trying to survive being the unpopular kid when she becomes The Butcher's (Vaughn) next target. Their fateful encounter gets twisted and they wake up in each other's bodies. Now looking like a towering psychopath, Millie learns she only has 24 hours to reverse the curse and get her body back before the switch becomes permanent and she's trapped in the form of a middle-aged maniac forever. With some help from her friends—ultra-woke Nyla (O'Connor), ultra-fabulous Joshua (Osherovich) and her crush Booker (Uriah Shelton)––Millie races against the clock to reverse the curse while The Butcher discovers that having a female teen body is the perfect cover for a little Homecoming killing spree. The 2.39:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, upconverted to 2160p with greater resolution and luminance, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa Mini camera system and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. Picture quality is terrific. The color palette is vivid throughout with nicely saturated hues that really pop. Primaries are solid, particularly bright reds. Every hue is beautifully captured and natural. Fleshtones are accurate throughout. Contrast is excellent. Black levels are inky and rich. Shadows are revealing. White levels are well illuminated with bright accents that contrast nicely, especially during night scenes. Resolution is superb with excellent textual depth and detail in facial features such as complexions, hair and beard stubble, as well as clothing fabrics and object texture. Facial scruff and pores define Vince Vaughn's face. This is a wonderfully colorful and dynamically contrasted picture that is visually engaging. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic throughout from deep, energized sub-25 Hz bass that enhances the action and killing segments to strong midrange and high-frequency accents. Atmospherics sound realistic. Sound effects are constant and directionalized. The orchestral score is dynamic sounding with a good bass foundation that occupies a wide and deep soundstage that aggressively extends to the surrounds and envelops the soundfield. Surround energy is very strong and aggressive. Dialogue is intelligible with generally good spatial integration. This is a very active and energized holosonic® soundtrack that is entertaining throughout. (Gary Reber)
