The 2.39:1 1080p picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed on Kodak Vision film stock using Panavision cameras and sourced from a 2K master Digital Intermediate format. Film grain is smooth and virtually invisible for the most part. Color fidelity is excellent with an aggressive saturation. Primaries, such as reds, are strong. Hues exhibit a rich and warm quality. Flesh tones are generally realistic. Contrast is good with deep blacks, such as those of some cars, revealing shadow delineation, and generally realistic white levels. Resolution is generally good with respect to facial features, clothing and object texture such as the sleek smoothnesss and shine of the exotic car paint. This is a generally good-looking picture that will please fans of the genre. (Gary Reber)
The Dolby Digital 5.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding with a seemngly constant music thack, which can be loud and harsh at times, and the tire screeching, engine revs and crashes during the car races. The music occupies a wide soundstage and an aggressive surround presence. Surround envelopment is aggressively directional but at times unnecessarily distracting, Atmospherics and sound effects are impactful, especially during races. Bass response sounds well balanced and not exaggerated. Dialogue is often ADR and wanting in spatial delineation. Overall, this is a very active holosonic® soundtrack with good dynamics. (Gary Reber)
