In Takers, a notorious group of criminals (Elba, Walker, Harris, Brown, Christensen, and Ealy) continue to baffle police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies. They are in and out like clockwork, leaving no evidence behind and laying low in between heists. But when they attempt to pull off one last job, with more money at stake than ever before, the crew finds their plans interrupted by a hardened detective (Dillon) who is hell-bent on solving the case. The 1080p AVC picture exhibits a stylized digital "music video" style, with fast and rushed editing that at times is annoying. The imagery appears filtered, which imparts an unnatural visual character. This is evidently the intended "look." As a result, the color palette is distorted and unnaturally hued. Blacks are deep and shadow delineation is, at times, poorly visualized. Resolution is good, with revealing detail seen in facial features, clothes, and object textures. The overall experience is visually interesting but definitely not common and a bit unsettling. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is fast paced throughout, with a dynamic character that uses deep bass to provide impact. Bass extension in the .1 LFE channel extends to sub-25 Hz levels. The highly electrified score delivers an enveloping holosonic® soundfield experience, with aggressive directionalized surrounds and plenty of high-energy transients. Explosions and gunfire are intense! Dialogue generally holds up well against the loud sound effects. This is a high-energy soundtrack that is engaging throughout, with an aggressively loud music score that is sure to excite. (Gary Reber)
