The original adventure "IF" is about the whimsical world of imaginary friends. IF is a heartwarming and hilarious tale about a girl who discovers that she can see everyone’s imaginary friends, known as IFs. She embarks on a magical journey to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids, before they disappear. (Gary Reber)

The 1.85:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa 65 camera system and sourced from a 4K Digital Intermediate. The picture is sharp and clear throughout with a vivid color palette. Hues are wonderfully saturated wth strong primaries that pop off the screen and nuanced shadings that enhance color depth. The color palette is extremely varied with a multitude of colorful animated characters of all imagery description. Flesh tones are perfectly natural. HDR contrast exhibits deep, solid blacks, revealing shadows and bright illumination with realistic white levels. The lighting and production design is stellar. Resolution is excellent with fine detail exhibited throughout. During closeups facial features are finely defined, such as pores, lines, beards and hair, as are clothing fabrics, objects and imaginary friends. This is a colorful picture with wonderful sharpness and brightness, image depth and dynamics. (Gary Reber)
The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dialogue focused with both human characters and voicings of imaginary friends. Clarity is excellent as well as spatial integration. The music is diversified from classical to jazz to pop. The music occupies a wide and deep soundstage with excellent fidelity. The music extends aggressively to the surrounds to envelop the soundfield. Atmospherics sound realistic and the occasional sound effect sounds dynamic. Deep bass never sound exaggerated. Foley sound effects perfectly enhance the on-screen motion in each scene.
The Immersive Sound element is comprised of a generally subtle extension of the music to the height layer, with a rare cresendo during imaginary friend matching. As well, there are a few subtle atmospheric touches that amount to nothing. Far more could have been achieved and as such, a disappointment..
This is a wounderful ear-level holosonic® soundtrack that is lively and dimensional. Both kids and adults will enjoy its heartwarming effect. (Gary Reber)
