The 1.85:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed on Kodak Vision3 35 mm film stock using the Arricam LT camera system and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. Film grain is virtually non-existent. As with modern big star concerts the imagery is very stylized and this is no exception, which serves as the backdrop to a trap set for a serial killer, involving a young girl fan of singer performer Lady Raven. The lighting design casts varying color scenarios from natural to excited hue distortion from the normal. But then this all looks realistic under the settings. Colors exhibit warm and rich saturated hues. Flesh tones for the most part appear perfectly natural. At times, primaries are strong. HDR contrast is is well balanced. Blacks are deep and solid. Shadows are revealing. White levels can be brilliant. Resolution, particularly during closeups reveal skin pores, lines, beards and hair. Performance detail is excellent as is arena detail. Clothing and costumes reveal fine fabrics. This is a dynamic picture set at a concert with over 6,000 thousand young people in attendance. (Gary Reber)
The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding during the concert performance. Outside the concert the sound builds to intense terror as "The Butcher" works his way to escape. The orchestral score is mysterious with a wide and deep soundstage and an aggressive surround presence. The concert is bombastic at times with a pounding bass presence. it too is aggressively enveloping. Atmospherics perfectly capture a crowded arena ambiance with at times discrete positioning of sound effects. Foley sound effects are perfectly in sync. Bass can extend deep. Dialogue is intelligible though can be froward sounding.
The Immersive Sound element is comprised of mostly distinct low level intervals of concert music and audience response, which briefly rises in level, brief low level orchestral music, brief low level distant helicopter flybys and minor other atmospherics Given the concert setting and other encounters with "The Butcher." this is a mediocre height layer application..
This is satisfying ear-level holosonic® experience wth a live concert backdrop in a lively arena with a sinister undercurrent. (Gary Reber)
