In "AfrAid," Curtis (John Cho) and his family are selected to test a revolutionary new home device: a digital family assistant called AIA. Taking smart home to the next level, once the unit and all its sensors and cameras are installed in their home, AIA seems able to do it all. She learns the family’s behaviors and begins to anticipate their needs. And she can make sure nothing –– and no one –– gets in her family’s way. (Gary Reber)

The 2.39:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally and sourced from a 2K Digital Intermediate. The production creates a dark hazy environment in the various settings. The color palette exhibits realistic hues within a darkened setting controlled by AI. Flesh tones retain their naturalness though not always, Contrast is on the darker scale. Black are deep, Shadows are deep and not always completely revealing. White levels appear realistic. The imagery is generally sharp and clear. Facial features are revealing of detail, as well as clothing and object textures. This is a frightening production that projects a scary future. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack, originally exhibited as Dolby Atmos, is dialogue focused with a supportive dynamic background of atmospherics and sound effects that extend to the surrounds, at times, aggressively The orchestral/choral score effectively envelops the soundfield with a wide and deep soundstage, providing effective enveloping surround extension. Dialogue is often ADR produced and otherwise sounds well integrated. This is a very engaging soundtrack due to its subject matter and well-crafted sound elements. (Gary Reber)
