The 2.40:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed in Super 35 on Kodak Vision2 film stock using the Panavision Panaflex Millennium camera system and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The picture is incredibly stylized with varying color schemes that depict an edgy and supernatural appearance. In a sense, sometimes the picture almost has an "ashy" quality, which, of course, complements the theme of hell on Earth. Visual effects are amazing. The color palette exhibits warm hues. Flesh tones are diverse, at times appearing unnatural. HDR contrast is excellent, Black levels are so incredibly deep, that it is imperative to view this title in a completely blackened viewing environment to appreciate the stunning depth. Shadow delineation is revealing. White levels are brightly illuminated. While some imagery still appears slightly smeared, images are impressively sharp and detailed. Fine detail is excellent with filmic textures. Facial features reveal skin pores, lines, makeup effects and hair, Clothing fabrics are detailed, especially during closeups. Objects and background features are nicely defined. This is a visually creative picture that is absolutely compelling. (Gary Reber)

The repurposed Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack delivers extremely active and intense dynamics and well recorded dialogue, which creates a much more realistic environment than was ever possible before. Bass is deep and powerful, and well defined, with an impressive foundation provided by the .1 LFE channel, which is mimicked in each of the full range channels at times. Bass provides perfect support for the intense sound effects. Atmospherics sound realistic. Foley sound effects are quite active with excellent sync to picture. The haunting orchestral score is dynamic sounding and spans a wide and deep soundstage with aggressive extension to the surrounds. Imaging in the aggressive surrounds provides directionality and excellent definition. Fidelity is very good as well. Dialogue is intelligible and clear throughout with very good articulation and generally good spatial integration.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised of an extensive myriad of atmospherics and sound effects that excite the height layer, often with intensity. At times, dialogue extension also is a sound element. As well, music is extended to the height layer. The sound designers have created a wonderful height layer with spherical dimensionality that significantly enhances the soundfield experience.

This is an intense holosonic® spherical surround soundtrack that is exciting and dynamic sounding with superb dimensionality. (Gary Reber)
