Based on the book by Steve McVicker, I Love You Phillip Morris is the improbable but true story of a spectacularly charismatic con man's (Carrey) journey from small-town businessman to flamboyant white-collar criminal, who repeatedly finds himself in trouble with the law and on the lam, brilliantly escaping from the Texas prison system on four separate occasions—all in the name of love. The 1.78:1 1080p AVC picture is terrific! Resolution is excellent, with imagery that is clear and sharp, especially in close-ups of facial features, clothing, and object textures. The color palette is perfectly natural, with well-balanced hues. Contrast is excellent as well, with deep blacks and revealing shadow delineation. This is really a pleasing picture that won't disappoint. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is nicely produced with an effective holosonic® soundfield presence. The music score is dynamic and spatially impressive, with a wide and deep soundstage and aggressive surround depth. Bass extension is well balanced with effective .1 LFE support. Dialogue is naturally developed with, at times, good spatial integration. Jim Carrey's narration is effectively balanced against the other elements. This is a soundtrack that really works to support this unusual story. (Gary Reber)
