    When a seven-year-old girl is kidnapped from her bedroom in a small suburb of Anchorage, a detective on the verge of retirement (Voight) with an obsessive hatred for child abductions, anxiously begins the hunt for the culprit. As the trail gets cold and time is running out, the detective forms an unlikely partnership with a mysterious radio psychic (Morris) who claims to have visions of the missing girl. The case takes a disturbing twist when it becomes clear that the most substantial clues all lead towards something outside of the law, past human reason, and forever frighteningly Beyond.     The 1.85:1 1080p AVC picture was shot digitally with the Red One digital camera in the cinematographic process Hawk Scope (anamorphic). The picture exhibits a "darkish" tone in the overcast Alaskan environment, with deeply saturated hues and slightly crushed blacks. As such, black detail is degraded but shadow delineation appears more revealing. Fleshtones are generally natural in tone. Overall, the picture exhibits a clean, natural look that casts a chilling atmospheric quality that suits the storytelling. (Gary Reber)

    The Dolby® TrueHD 5.1-channel soundtrack is effectively haunting, with an orchestral music score that enhances the dark mood. The music is presented with a wide and deep soundstage and enveloping surround presence, though, is a bit compressed and distorted. Deep bass extension is heard at times in the .1 LFE channel through the music and appropriately to enhance the atmospherics and special effects. Dialogue sounds natural, but the ADR processing is, at times, wanting in spatial integration. The overall impression is that the sound works as an integral suspenseful element in the storytelling. For an avid audio/video enthusiast such as myself, Widescreen Review literally blows away the competition in terms of technical expertise and professional journalism when covering the world of cinema. Whether it is for the home or the local movie theatre, the magazine's articles are the most complete from my experience.
