The 2.39:1 1080p AVC picture quality is excellent, with a stylized roughness in the characterizations against a future-tech machine environment in space. The color palette is blue-gray in tone, with naturally hued fleshtones contrasting. Hues appear natural throughout. Contrast is well balanced with deep, solid blacks and revealing shadow delineation. Resolution is revealing of fine detail, especially during close-ups of facial features, hair, clothing, and object texture. The result is a dramatic cinematic look that nicely supports the sci-fi story environment. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic and spatially dimensional, with an aggressive holosonic® enveloping soundfield presence. Atmospherics, special effects, and Foley elements are effectively applied, to create tension and sonic mood. Effects are enhanced with deep sub-25 Hz low-frequency energy. The orchestral score is sweeping, with a dynamic sonic presence that spans the frontal soundstage wide and deep and extends aggressively to the surrounds. Dialogue is generally integrated spatially, except in instances of ADR. Overall, this is a terrific sonic experience that enhances the story's mood. (Gary Reber)
