Hysteria is the surprising story of the birth of the electro-mechanical vibrator at the peak of the Victorian prudishness. Doctors in London treat cases of hysteria, characterized at the time by a woman's irritability, anger, or unexplained tears, with a new electrical device for treatment for the ailment. Based on the original story by Howard Gensler. (Gary Reber)

Special features include commentary with Director Tanya Wexler; an evening with Wexler, Hugh Dancy, and Jonathan Pryce (HD 12:26); the featurettes Hysteria: Behind The Scenes (HD 05:41) and Passion & Power: The Technology Of Orgasm (HD 43:07); four deleted scenes (HD 02:52); the theatrical trailer; and upfront previews.

The 2.35:1 1080p AVC picture is naturally rendered but exhibits a cinematic gritty appearance with slight grain. The color palette is naturally hued with rich and warm tones and accurate fleshtones. Contrast is a bit uneven, with crushed blacks and shadow delineation that is veiled. Resolution underperforms, with generally soft imagery. Overall, the naturalness is engaging, as is the cinematic visual character. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is conventionally produced with a monaural focus, except for stereophonic atmospherics and sound effects and an orchestral music score with an effective aggressive surround presence that envelops the soundfield. Fidelity is quite good. Deep bass is naturally supportive in the .1 LFE channel during the music segments. Dialogue sounds natural throughout, with convincing spatial integration. This is a nicely delivered soundtrack that fully supports the engaging storytelling. (Gary Reber)
