    Based on the novel These Foolish Things by Deborah Moggach, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel follows a group of seven cash-strapped seniors who decide to "outsource" their retirement to a resort in far-off India. Friendship and romance blossom in the most unexpected ways. (Gary Reber)

    The 2.35:1 1080p AVC picture is extremely cinematic in appearance, with a strong colorful density that exhibits rich and warm hues and natural fleshtones. Contrast is generally well balanced with deep blacks and shadows that are revealing. Still, the overall appearance exhibits a darker tone. Resolution is excellent, with detail exhibited in facial features, hair, clothing, and object texture. This is a very warm visual experience that feels right, minus the smells that are characteristic of India. (Gary Reber)

    The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is natural sounding, with focused dialogue and narration that is rather forward and not particularly well integrated spatially. Atmospherics and sound effects effectively immerse the soundfield to communicate the exotic sounds of India. The Indian-flavored music perfectly complements the mood with a nicely recorded score. The sonic foundation has natural-sounding bass that enhances the overall natural density of the soundtrack. The music is the primary element that extends to the surrounds and provides an immersive experience. Overall, this is an effective soundtrack with intelligible dialogue and an exotic presence.
