Disconnect follows a collection of fascinating characters: a hard-working lawyer attached to his cell phone, yet he can't find the time to communicate with his family; a couple drawn into a dangerous situation when their secrets are exposed online; a widowed ex-cop struggling to raise a mischievous son who cyber-bullies a classmate; and an ambitious journalist seeing a career-making story in a teen that performs on an adult-only site. They are strangers, neighbors, and colleagues, and their stories collide in this riveting dramatic thriller about ordinary people struggling to connect in today's wired world. (Gary Reber)

The 1.85:1 1080p AVC picture is rawly photographed with the Red Epic digital camera system. The color palette is distorted to create a visual "documentary" style with undersaturated hues. Fleshtones are inconsistent. Contrast is uneven as well, with insufficient black levels and heightened shadows with, at times, a diffused filtered look. Resolution is generally revealing of fine detail in facial features, hair, clothing, and object texture. This is a raw visual experience that pushes realism for storytelling that is intense. The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is frontal focused, with an emotionally compelling music score that complements the disturbing reality of today's wired world. Dialogue is intelligible and at times decently integrated spatially but otherwise wanting in natural dimension. Deep bass is conservatively applied. Surround envelopment is pretty much limited to the music score. Overall, this is about as effective as the story will support, as the focus is on interpersonal relationships conducted wirelessly on personal screens. (Gary Reber)
