Based on the novel by Neil Gordon, The Company You Keep tells the story of Jim Grant (Redford), a public interest lawyer and single father raising his daughter in the tranquil suburbs of Albany, New York. Grant's world is turned upside down when a brash young reporter (LaBeouf) exposes his true identity as a former 1970's antiwar radical fugitive wanted for murder. After living for more than 30 years underground, Grant must now go on the run. With the FBI in hot pursuit, he sets off on a cross-country journey to track down the one person who can clear his name. The 2.39:1 1080p AVC picture was photographed digitally and exhibits a cinematic natural appearance, with well-balanced color saturation and hues that are rich and warm. Fleshtones are healthily hued and natural as well. Contrast is well balanced with excellent blacks and shadow delineation. Resolution is excellent, with fine detail revealed throughout, especially in close-ups of facial features, hair, clothing, and object texture. The imagery is pristine throughout. This is a really superb visual experience that projects realism. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack delivers effective and realistic atmospherics, with subtle directionalized surround immersion. Sound effects are occasionally punctuated for dramatic effect. The orchestral music score is nicely recorded with a wide and deep soundstage that extends to the surrounds. Deep bass in the .1 LFE channel supports the music and sound effects. Dialogue is decently integrated spatially. This is an effective and engaging sonic experience that perfectly complements the suspense. (Gary Reber)
