    Based on a novel by E. M. Nathanson, The Dirty Dozen features a rugged all-star cast in an engrossing, pulse-pounding adventure. Twelve violent psychopaths committed in a military prison are offered a pardon in exchange for a suicide mission.

    Special features include the 95-minute The Dirty Dozen: Next Mission movie; an introduction to the film by Ernest Borgnine; commentary by E.M. Nathanson, David J. Schow, and Captain Dale Dye with Jim Brown, Trini Lopez, Kenneth Hyman, Stuart Cooper, and Colin Maitland; the 31-minute Armed And Deadly making-of featurette; the nine-minute Operation Dirty Dozen and 47-minute The Filthy Thirteen: Real Stories From Behind The Lines featurettes; Lee Marvin's last project before his death; the 30-minute Marine Corps Combat Leadership Skills training film; and the theatrical trailer.

    The VC-1-encoded 1.85:1 HD DVD picture looks dated, with slightly smeared details and a reddish color scheme. Source element artifacts are abound and minor edge enhancement can be noticed. (Danny Richelieu)
