Reviving the 1932 classic horror tale with wild visual effects and a heart-pounding Jerry Goldsmith score, The Mummy stars Brendan Fraser as fortune-hunter Rick O'Connell, who along with archaeologist Evelyn Carnarvon (Weisz), uncover an Egyptian burial site that unleashes the fierce wrath of cursed 3,000-year-old priest Imhotep. (Laurie Sevano)

Special features include some of those found on the Ultimate Edition (Issue 49)—three commentaries (Director Stephen Sommers and Editor Bob Ducsay; Brendan Fraser; and Actors Oded Fehr, Kevin J. O'Connor, and Arnold Vosloo); the Building A Better Mummy documentary; a visual and special effects segment; deleted scenes; a storyboard to final film comparison; a photo montage; and the theatrical trailer.

Like the D-VHS D-Theater™ release, the VC-1-encoded 2.30:1 HD DVD exhibits an impressive picture with well-resolved details and good depth of field. The HD DVD version has slight improvement in color fidelity and finely resolved details. Still, there are scenes that can look slightly soft. (Danny Richelieu)

The Dolby® Digital Plus encoding found on the HD DVD provides a slight increase in overall fidelity over the D-VHS D-Theater version, but only slight. The mix is still exciting and intense—a fantastic soundtrack. (Danny Richelieu)
