    Nameless and looking to get out of the drug trade, XXXX (Craig) has two last jobs to complete: locate the junkie daughter of a chum of his volatile gangster boss (Cranham), and broker the sale of an enormous load of ecstasy.In the process, XXXX must abandon more than one of his self-assigned rules of criminal conduct...and he becomes unsure if he will get out of the business alive.Consequently, he gets mixed up with an upper-class crime lord (Gambon), a Serb assassin, a flashy third-rate crook, a really hot girl, and lots of people talking very fast in accents of varying decipherability. J.J.Connolly's screenplay for Layer Cake is based on his novel. (Suzanne Hodges)

    All of the special features can be found on the DVD reviewed in Issue 101, and they include audio commentary with Director Matthew Vaughn and Writer J.J. Connolly, 14 deleted scenes and two alternate endings with optional director's commentary, a 29-minute Q&A session from a London screening with Vaughn and Actor Daniel Craig, a six-minute making-of featurette, and previews.

    The MPEG-2-encoded 2.38:1 Blu-ray Disc looks good, with good detail and accurate colors. Black levels are not pitch black, but shadow delineation is good. Whites can be slightly bright and have a bluish tint, and some digitized stairstepping can be seen at times. (Danny Richelieu)

    The uncompressed linear PCM 5.1-channel encoding is topnotch, with superb fidelity, dynamic range, and articulation. The mix is energetic, doing its part in keeping the action moving. (Danny Richelieu)
