    Like The Good Shepherd who watched over his sheep, Edward Wilson (Damon) would do anything necessary to protect America, the country that he loved. After Edward joined the secret Skull and Bones society as a young man, he was recruited to work for the Office of Strategic Services, eventually becoming one of the main players in the CIA. However, the secret life of an intelligence agent didn't leave room for much else, including his wife Clover (Jolie) and his young son Edward Jr. (Redmayne), who wanted to be just like his father.     Special features are the same as the DVD, limited to seven deleted scenes, with the addition of the U-Control option (Picture-In-Picture) and My Scenes.

    The HD DVD's VC-1-encoded picture shows very good black levels and shadow delineation to create a nice sense of depth, but it is not as highly detailed as the best high-definition releases. Like the DVD, the detail is not as consistent as it should be, and fleshtones can look slightly off. (Danny Richelieu)

    The Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel soundtrack is fairly basic, with the surround and LFE channels used relatively infrequently. The front stage is deep and wide, creating an enveloping front field, but the lack of surround envelopment can still make the soundtrack feel decidedly one-dimensional. Fidelity is pristine, especially with the well-recorded, articulate dialogue. The HD DVD's Dolby Digital Plus encoding accentuates the highlights of the DVD's encoding, as it should, but also can point out the portions of the dialogue that were ADR-produced, making it sound noticeably different than the rest of the dialogue.
